Title: Survivor Island in the classroom

Blog Entry: Do you remember the TV series Survivor Island? Is it even still on TV? I don't think so, but it did come to life in a Florida Classroom. A kindergarden teacher in Florida got frustrated with a 5 year old autistic child and held her own version of Survivor Island. Five year old Alex Barton's classmates were allowed by the teacher to tell him what they did not like about him and then took a vote that was 14-2 to vote the little kindergardener out of the classroom. I can not believe that a teacher entrusted in the well being of such young minds would even think this would be a good way to discipline a 5 year old handicapped child. I realize that teachers today are limited in how they can disciplin the kids and I truly empathize with them, but this is over the line and really boderlines on abuse. Who says that media does not shape minds. I don't know the age of this teacher, but I would bet that she spent part of her childhood watching Survivor Island and drew upon that to use for her disciplinary skills. Although many are calling for her to be fired, I do not, but I do think that she needs to be sent back for some remedial classes on how to discipline young kids. Sometimes life really is stranger than fiction .
