Blog Entry: 5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. 6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. 7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. 8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? 9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? 10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? 11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? 12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. Jesus warns his disciples to be aware of the doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. The Pharisees were the more fundamental of the two. They put on a big show of being very zealous over the Law of Moses but at the same time they had corrupted the law with their own teachings and traditions. Jesus mentions several time that even though they appear very zealous for God they were far from him in their hearts. The Sadducees were the more liberal of the two. They denied a lot of the supernatural aspects of God such as resurrection, angels, miracles, and the coming judgment of God. You can still some of each group today in the Church. A lot of churches have strayed from sound Biblical teaching. Heck a lot deny the Bible. We have prosperity preaching, universalism, Christians promoting following the Old Testament Law, New Age beliefs, liberal theology, I talk to a woman the other night that claimed Paul was false teacher, none of which is adheres to the teaching of Christ. We have strayed so far from the truth I wonder why God tolerates us at all. The average Christian doesn’t know the Bible or they study the Bible with a humanistic view. That is where a lot of these false doctrines come from people putting a humanistic stamp on the Gospel. The Bible is the word of God and if we open our hearts to God the Spirit will make the Bible come alive to us.
