I remember in the beginning days of dial up, we were charged by the minute for connection time to the Internet. I think most of us have gotten use to the all-you-can-eat Internet and pretty comfortable with it to the point that we take it for granted. Well, hold on, we may be going backwards.
Time Warner, the Internet Cable Monopoly has decided to start charging all its new customers in Beaumont, Texas an overage fee if they go over their monthly allotment for their plan. This is a starting point to test and see how well this works and then they will consider the idea to expand it to other areas and existing customers. You're not with Time Warner you say? Not to worry, AT&T and other Broadband providers are mulling over some plans in this area as well.
Metered Internet is so 20th Century, but yet the broadband folks are not making enough profit so they are trying to figure out a way to get a little more of your money. What money, don't have anything left after the gasoline bills as it is now.
Communication has become so instant and easy now, I would hate to have to go back to thinking do I have enough time left this month to send this email or listen to this song. Even many of the Cell companies are trying out unlimited cell services as we move toward the future, but yet these monopolies want to go backwards.
Well again, God proves right.... "The love of money is the root of all evil". And we know the Internet is evil, right? (LOL)
Well, I hope the experiment is a BIG BUST and their prospective customers try a different service till they decide to scrap this consumer not-friendly idea. Time will tell. That is, ummm, err... Time-Warner will tell.
Dominus Vobiscum,
Deacon Dan
