Dear Mr. Jesus
Posted On 07/02/2008 22:07:31 by DeaconDan

After hearing the tragic news today about the finding of the body of little 12 year old Brooke Bennett, a song from the mid eighties came to my mind. It was called Shelter from the Storm, but was also commonly known as Dear Mr. Jesus. The song is a prayer being song to Jesus by a six year old little girl.

It is so sad that the adults these young children trust are the very ones that hurt them. Brooke's uncle is suspected to have lured her and other young girls to be initiated in his sex ring.

Now the girl is dead. So tragic and so sad. It is also reported that her former stepfather was also arrested in relationship to this tragic event.

In the song, this little girl ask "Mr. Jesus" why do these happen. The question needs to go to these "trusted adults" though. Why did THEY let these things happen to the kids who trusted them. So many young kids end up hurt, abused or worse yet, like little Brooke Bennett, murdered. In the old days most parents were more involved with the day to day affairs of their kids. I hated it then, but glad now. My mom knew my every move and my every location I was at all times. Heck even now, she will call and say "Where are you"? Maybe if more parents today were more involved with the day to day affairs of these little ones, we would not keep hearing these tragic stories on the air. May God Bless the sould of Brooke and may God comfort those who loved her.

Here are the lyrics to the song.

Dear Mr. Jesus, I just had to write to you

Something really scared me, when I saw it on the news

A story 'bout a little girl beaten black and blue

Jesus, thought I'd take this right to you

Dear Mr. Jesus, I don't understand

Why they took her mom and dad away

I know that they don't mean to hit with wild and angry hands

Tell them just how big they are I pray

Please don't let them hurt your children

We need love and shelter from the storm

Please don't let them hurt your children

Won't you keep us safe and warm

Dear Mr. Jesus, they say that she may die

Oh I hope the doctors stop the pain

I know that you could save her and take her up to the sky

So she would never have to hurt again

Please don't let them hurt your children..

Dear Mr. Jesus, please tell me what to do

And please don't tell my daddy

But my mommy hits me, too.

Please don't let them hurt your children...

Yea Nette, I remember that story too.  That was Taylor Paschal-Placker and  Skyla Whitaker.   One was 13 and the other 11 and they were just shot and left in a ditch.  I am not even sure if they have caught anybody for that.  All so young and so tragic.

It is sad that you have to be so cautious now a days, but when we have the amount on non God fearing people in our world as we do today, these are the results.

This is such a sad and tragic story and unfortunately it happens more often then we care to know. When my family and I were in Oklahoma a few weeks ago two young girls around the same age as Brooke were found shot dead on one of the rural roads in a small town down there. I also have an 11 year old and we live about 4 blocks from the Middle school that she attends. Very rarely does she walk home, if she does it is with several of her friends and then I wait and count the minutes until she arrives. There is always the eliment of the unknown. You can't trust anyone anymore, not even the ones you know. God Bless the family of this child and give them strength to endure such a tragic loss of an innocent child.
