Religion vs. Spirituality

Now, I am with odds with my current church because of their twisted views and olden rules. The youth in the church has stopped coming and the Spirit is fading inside. I AM IN NO WAY A SAVIOUR, but I am very opinionated.

There are a few elders that I've challenged, well debated because I didnt like their ways. Some of the elders in my family didnt like it, but the younger ones loved me for it. I want to know if I was in the wrong...

(CASE) One of my Cousins lost a child due to still birth ad got a tattoo of her name on her arm in the sign of a cross. She was told that her body is a temple and she sinned against God by getting a tattoo. Of course, this upset her more...
(My DEBATE) I said that it was true that the body is a temple, but the outside can be decorated. Dont you decorate the outside of your home if it has been weathered? I beleived that the temple is house the spirit, therefore you shouldnt allow any pollution INSIDE the temple. Remember, Jesus said what goes into your mouth doesnt defile you, but what comes out of your mouth (tongue) defiles him. That struck their nerve, so...

(CASE) Because I went away to college in another state, I did not attend their church in 6 months. They have a rule that if you dont attend in half a year, you are no longer a member, so my words were invalid...
(REBUTLE) I dont go to find God behind 4 walls because the temple is in the heart. Behind walls you find Adulterers, Covetness, and Thieves. But in the soul you can find evelasting joy. So am I offended by not being a member? No. Thats an earthly title that doesnt mater on the day of Judgment. God is no respector of man or their titles. The last shall be first, and the first shall be last...this angered them more.

(CASE) My mother hasnt worked in years due to having a stroke. So she hasnt paid tithes in a few years because she has no source of income. She was also told that her membership to church could be void unless she tithe, and that upset her. No son wants to see their mother upset.
(MY RESPONSE) Again, if you read the New Testaments, you see that God doesnt require money. He requires Mercy and Sacrifice in helping others. When you bring money into a church, it becomes a Den of Thieves. And money is the Root of all Evil, so why would you bring it inside of a church? Yes, the Old Testament said to tithe, but we are in the Testament of Grace, where God has no desire for money. What would he want with money? Don't you know that when money becomes a church issue, God turns his head in disgust?

Needless to say, the Elders say nothing to me and they look at me as if I were Satan. I honestly dont think I said or did anything wrong. I felt that they've become corrupt and I called them out on it, since they came after my family. More debates happened, and I challenged their motifs, but what do you think? Am I wrong to challenge their old frame of thought?

I agree with the Deacon and Jackie, if you can find peace where you are, it is time to move on.....

Apostle_TK, I guess my only question is why are you still there at that church. Although I am taking this out of context, but Jesus did say if you are not welcomed, shake the dust off your sandals and move on. I mean, because you went away to college, you are not a member anymore... RIDICULOUS! Because you mom can not tithe, she is not a member...RIDICULOUS!

The things that you mentioned above were not handled in a Christian way in my opinion and I am guessing these folks are going to be hard to move. Not impossible, but is it worth the headache.

On the note of the tats..... Although they did not handle it in a pastorly way, they are referencing the Bible forbidding putting tattoos on your body.

Dominus vobiscum,
Deacon Dan

Hey,

i dont think you are wrong, but maybe your approach is a little different, see it those guys are clogged into their old ways that speaking change to them (in a way of standing to their face)looks like lack of respect; but i agree with you on the issue of membership, i think those guys are just after earthly affiliations and not building you into the way of heaven, into Jesus footsteps!, also about your mom not tithing, think they are greedly, they should be helping out, they should be contributing towards her needs and not demanding the tithe, here in Kenya, they teach us that the tithe belongs to God, that you are actually paying on what you receive, so if you do not receive then you cannot tithe, then again, you do not have to tithe just in form of money, guys in the olden days tithed in form of first fruits, you can tithe other stuff other than money, am really disappointed that they could have such perverted mind on the word of God.

But there could be a solution dear, you alone know what you need, to quech the thirsting of your soul, if they do not satisfy you, just look for a place that your soul will be at peace, i believe in peace of mind, if anybody stress me, or a situation, i look for a possible way to make it easier and more confortable for me; that way i save my heart lots of trouble and i rest my mind, there are enough places where your soul would be satisfied, just look around, this might be your cue out! take care.
