hurricane update number 2
Posted On 09/13/2008 01:00:29 by DeaconDan

Make note to self.  For next huricane, buy battery operated fan.

Well I am still here.  :)  It is 12:45 AM now.  And it is HOT.  It finally started to rain and I had to close the windows.  So no air at all.  aargh!

The wind is howling like you would hear in a scary movie.  The rain is light still, nothing hard, although according to the radio, the hard stuff should be in my part of town in about 30 minutes.  The eye of the storm has just crossed into Galveston.  Theyh are really catching it there.   Hope those left in Galveston are OK.  I do not know why anyone would try to ride this one in Galveston, but they were warned.

Hmmm.... a new noise.  Now along with the howling, there is whistling.  Just heard something on the news.  They said that you should not open windows or doors.  They were saying that it creates a vacuum that could actully cause the roof to be blown off.  Guess I am lucky I closed them before it got bad and I wouldhave raised the roof.  That would not have been fun.  I was opening the door and standing in the doorway so I could look out and get some fresh  cool air.  So OK, I'll just sweat.

OK, that's it for now.  More later.

Praying unceasingly here, Dan!  Hope you're able to soon post another update to let us know you're okay!  I'm a little worried here, friend....heard a few tornadoes whistle past during that last storm in Florida a couple weeks ago.  Just read at the National Hurricane Center cite that Ike's eye is passing through metro Houston....am hoping your cell phone is still able to get service.  Almost 1-1/2 million without power, sustained winds still at Cat 2 100mph.  The devastation to life and property is going to be bad, I fear.   I can't understand why anyone near the coast would choose to not evacuate....I pray they survived----guess the rescuers will soon be able to get there.  Will be praying for those inland....it'll be a few more hours until Ike's fury lessens.
