If I were a ³Good Christian²...
...I would rise early every morning - 4:00 am seems about right - feeling
well rested and energized, and enter into a private time of devotional
prayer. I would spend at least an hour, on my knees in prayer. I would
praise God for who He is - His nature and character. I would confess my
individual sins as well as my inherently sinful nature. I would thank God
for all that Heıs done for me personally, and for mankind in general. I
would present my needs and desires to Him, and willfully submit to His
perfect wisdom and timing, and then embark on a peaceful and relaxed day
of God-centered activities..
...I would spend at least another hour in devotional Bible study.
Prayerfully and unhurriedly meditating on each verse, each word, seeking
to glean every implication of Godıs intent and desire in inspiring the
writers to record what they did. I would observe, interpret and apply -
even if I only covered a word or two in a single sitting.
......I would begin each day by evaluating the tasks before me, relying
on the Spirit to dictate my values and determine my priorities. I would
efficiently, methodically and systematically complete each task to the
best of my ability, making the best use of all the resources available to
me.
...I would keep my eyes open to make the connection between what I
observe going on around me, and what God would have me involve myself in.
I would be consciously on the alert for genuine, God-ordained
opportunities to share my faith; either through actions or words.
...I would visit the sick and the lonely. I would transport those in need
of transportation. I would perform labor for those unable to do for
themselves. I would sacrifice my personal time and interests to be of
service to others.
...I would be ever vigilant to avoid and resist temptations to sin in
thought, word or deed.
...I would commit the Spirit-revealed insights I receive for Godly living
to writing, in the hope that the lessons I learn and principals I am able
to articulate, may be helpful to others.
...I would dedicate myself to being educated in every area that might
help me be a more effective minister of Godıs grace: Biblical languages,
church history, theology, doctrine, hermeneutics, homiletics, and s
forth... I would be a diligent student.
...I would eat a balanced diet of nutritious foods that would contribute
to my reaching a level of fitness appropriate to my age and height. I
would engage in regular exercise to attain and maintain that level of
fitness. I would organize my evening schedule so that I get the amount of
sleep each night that my body needs to rest and regenerate.
...I would look back at the end of the day and see where I made right
choices about how to use my time (redeeming the time); my actions
harmonizing with my intentions; my decisions with my values.
But... even if I did ALL of these, everyday for the rest of my life, I
would still have the same desparate need for Godıs grace and the cross of
Christ, as if I did NONE of them, ever.
